Brian Miller - ( Photo by Eric Gilliand)

Brian Miller has spent several decades in teaching, bookselling, book production and photography.

After completing a BSc in geology at Otago University 1969 he spent 13 years in Papua New Guinea involved in - prospecting, training science teachers, writing science books and organising the countries eductational book production. During that time he photographed the country, people and culture extensively, producing a top selling pictorial book “ The Highlands of Papua New Guinea”

After returning to New Zealand in 1984 he took over Tapui Children’s Books spending the next 2 decades selling children’s books to schools and libraries around the South Island of New Zealand. During this time he continued photography and advised many people on book publishing.

In 2007 he sold Tapui Children’s Books to concentrate on writing and assisting people to publish their family stories.

In 2005 he converted to Digital Photography when the quality was able to match film. Although he has an extensive background in science and photography, he found the conversion to digital very complicated
( though he was converting at a high level with a large SLR camera). He then began to think - “If the conversion is dificult for me, with my background, no wonder non-photographers are struggling with their new compact digital cameras”

This led to the writing of Digital Cameras the easy way a pocket-book designed to explain how to improve your photos by learning to use only the few important controls.
